Situation

Cord mess is a common problem. Not only is it unsightly, the clutter can also make it difficult to find or untangle the cord you need.

Instructional Procedures

  1. Ask the students, “How do you store your device cords?”
  2. Use the Cord Mess Slides to show pictures of tangled device cords or ask students to take a photo of their “cord storage” (their own cord mess).
  3. Discuss the problems that can be caused by cord mess.
  4. Explain to the students that cord mess is a common problem. Not only is it unsightly, the clutter can also make it difficult to find or untangle the cord you need. They will be working in teams to create a solution to this problem.
  5. Guide the students to construct a question similar to, “How can we design a low-cost, easy-to-make, marketable product to solve the problem of cord mess?”
  6. As a class, discuss possible solutions to keeping cords unknotted, easy to use, and easy to find.
  7. Show students the Cord Mess Pinterest Board.
